Every once in a while, we get feedback from runners who are using our unique training and racing approach to meet their marathon goals. Here’s a great note from Amy, who used our race execution guide (available here for free) to have a successful first race. Congrats Amy and thanks for sharing!!!!

Dear Patrick,

Yesterday I ran my first marathon–the Eisenbahn Marathon, from Eden to West Bend, Wisconsin, mostly run on an old railroad bed converted to a recreational trail. Lucky for me, it finished in my home town. It was really small–just 150 runners for the first annual event.

Some of my running friends had run marathons with goals of beating 4 hours, qualifying for Boston and I followed in their footsteps. By and large, the strategy they used was to run “fast early miles” so you had a bank of time for the slow running at the end. But. many of them would struggle and not make their goals. And these were faster runners than me, so I was worried. Then I came along your REVOLUTIONARY strategy by seeing you on Facebook. You turned their logic upside down and intrigued me from the start. I bought into your pacing ideas and used them in my long run training and found how nice it was to start out slow, ease into a bit faster pace, and then sometimes even practice a fast finish.

I am writing to thank you for sharing your knowledge and tips because they helped me to meet my goal and truly enjoy the race from start to finish. Sure, it wasn’t completely easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is!

I will recommend this race strategy to anyone who asks.

Sincerely,

Amy Leitheiser
